TRIBUTE

On 23 June 2022, the Anglican Church Of Uganda lost an outstanding member. Veronica Nyakana went to be with the Lord, her redeemer and friend. Vero, as she was fondly known, was a friend to every congregant of St Mark’s Church (thanks to her pleasant personality). She was an inspiring Mother’s Union leader that started their Tea Project and was the custodian of their funds. She was a committed contributor to church investments (together with husband, erected the original front church fence). She offered a link of the past with the present (remarkably so vividly relating Entebbe church transformation over the period she lived). Her faith in Christ was unshakeable. Even when walking presented physical challenges, she regularly attended church services to the end of her life. Veronica, a daughter of a priest and baptised in St Mark’s Church in 1940 as an infant, leaves a legacy of a role model: a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a great Mother’s Union leader as well as a witness of Jesus Christ. She was polite to everyone and her hospitality was unrivaled, reflecting her enviable days as a wife of a United Nations diplomat. She treated every home visitor to first class hospitality. She fitted all occasions: many will remember her in white shorts and blouse while training women in physical drill, in English attire at parties and in a gomesi hand in hand with her husband. Mothers Union without Veronica, St Mark church without her and Eriab without Vero will need the strong presence of the comforting Holy Spirit.

Rest in peace, Veronica.
